"The Week". I was lucky enough to be in the right place
at the right time. The week of NOV 6, 2005, I was one of a group of 8 excellent flyfishermen staying at Casa Blanca
Lodge on the south side of Ascension Bay in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. We were all targeting permit, considered
the most difficult species to take on the fly. For some reason, the permit were chewin' big time that week and
our group landed a total of 35! I had 4 for the week including this beautiful 35 pound specimen, by far my largest
ever. After a 42 minute battle, my excellent guide, Manuel (Tarantula) couldn't haul this beast over the gunnel,
and had to jump out in chest deep water and wrassle the beast! This turned out to be the largest permit landed
that year at Casa Blanca, proving once again that even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while!
